So you think you're an independent traveller

So you think you’re an independent traveller?

You’re an independent traveller? You use the internet to book your holidays? You to interesting places that sometimes take two flights to get to. You insure yourself just to cover those moments when things just simply go wrong. But there’s something you probably didn’t know. You are not insured if you are delayed and you miss your connecting flight because your first aircraft just doesn’t take off on time.

Worse still. If you’re on different airlines the chances of you getting home without having to pay another complete airfare are pretty much zero. I know. It happened to my family as 5 of us got stranded through now fault of our own. It cost us over £4,000 to get home. And that was cheap. It would have cost us over £16,000 if there hadn’t been a Virgin employee who gave us his entire family discount tickets so we could get home. Where ever you are Liam. Thank you!

But there is something you can make sure when you book the flights that prevents this from happening. Although I have since learned that this is and UNINSURABLE situation, you can make sure that the flights you book are booked all the way through. Meaning that each relevant carrier knows that you are depending on them to get you to a destination at a specific time to connect with another flight. If you do this, suddenly some hidden doors open and some sort of negotiation happens and you get home free of charge. I know this because in our party was a family who knew about this loop hole and had made sure they were booked all the way through!

The power of information!
