Following in the footsteps of some of today's biggest bands, Alphabeat has put the power in the hands of the fans. The assignment:
design an Alphabeat t-shirt
that will grab the attention of Alphabeat, themselves. The rewards: 2 tickets to one of this summer's Alphabeat shows, your t-shirt awarded to you by the band and the chance to meet the members in person, as well as a goodie back stuffed full of cool stuff.
The t-shirt program is a well-intentioned plan, designed to give fans a way to interact with the band. With the implementation of this plan, Alphabeat begins to cement their hold over the music charts, by holding the interest and love of their fans. What better method to increase the popularity of a band than by letting the fans help? That's what Alphabeat has done. This is nothing new for the band, as their driving force is dedication to their fan base and having fun.
The T-shirt competition is likewise not something new. The US band Fall Out Boy recently held a similar contest for fans, as have other bands, both in the UK and in the US. What is new is that this is the first contest of its kind for the band Alphabeat and is a mark of honour, as well as a testament to how far they have come, playing their unique version of 80's pop style music.
Beyond the t-shirt competition, the band is also holding a
10,000 Nights contest
. That contest is to get 10,000 pictures of fans posted on their website. After the 10,000 photos are uploaded, winners will be drawn and goodies handed out.
Regardless of what you think about pop music as a whole, Alphabeat's dedication to their fans is inspiring. Their many attempts at embracing the listeners include blogs, (available at the band's website) the t-shirt contest, and several other promotions, as well as daily updates from their tour, written by the band, themselves. Dedicated fans have thrilled to the music of Alphabeat since their days in Copenhagen, though for many Britons (and the world at large), this tour is the first chance to hear and be amazed by the fun, funky pop sound that the band provides.
Remember, the t-shirt contest ends soon, so if you're creative or just love the band, make your t-shirt and submit your design. There's always the chance that you'll win big!
